This recent work is influenced by Neo-Expressionism, pop art, folk art and graffiti. The Southern California landscape provides a backdrop and inspiration for combining color, composition and iconic imagery. Presented in a storytelling format these paintings set up variable relationships between imagery, color and composition, creating mixed media works with multiple storylines and conclusions.   The process of arranging disconnected images and panels of color together offers interchangeable stories to be told within the framework of a single painting.   This network of paintings works like interchangeable parts, creating variable storylines and conclusions. Small individual panels create larger multi-paneled pieces and develop into disjointed storylines that clash in style and content.  By being placed together within the same work the compositions are compelled to relate and make a connection.   Ultimately this work is about objectifying and re-contextualizing imagery with color and style in order to develop content and to maintain a visual narrative.     Jason Gould
